For more
than 100 years, the Petersham Art Center has been a beacon of light for local
art, offering classes, exhibits, and artisan gifts that delight visitors
and residents to this day.
The Center’s
new spring exhibition is a nature-lover's dream, displaying the exquisite beauty of New England through the eyes and
lens of the area’s most prominent photographer, Paul Rezendes. This distinctive show features the artist's fine, large-format
landscapes, all of which are reminiscent of Ansel Adams -- except in living color.
Viewers will see
dramatic images of the Quabbin region and other forest locales, as well as sumptuous coast lines from
Maine to Martha’s Vineyard. Special
highlights include stunning Harvard
Pond from Petersham, Whetstone Brook in Wendell,
Winterberries from New Salem, and Red Oaks in Royalston. The exhibit pieces are produced as custom-made,
museum-quality, LightJet limited and non-limited edition prints, which bring
incredible detail and resolution to the artist's photographic compositions.
Paul Rezendes' work
has been showcased in Outdoor
Photographer magazine and his photos have appeared in hundreds of books,
magazines, calendars, catalogues, posters, and postcards – including
covers for national publications, billboards, and museum murals. The artist's work also has been featured in brochures and promotional materials for corporate and commercial accounts in the US and abroad.
In addition, Paul Rezendes is
recognized as one of the country’s leading animal tracking experts and is the
author/photographer of the highly acclaimed guide, Tracking and the Art of Seeing:
How to Read Animal Tracks and Sign, which celebrated its 20th year
in print in 2012. Other titles include The Wild Within: Adventures in Nature and Animal Teachings; Martha’s Vineyard Seasons: A Photographic Essay; Massachusetts; and Wetlands: The Web of Life, a
fine art photography book co-authored with his wife, Paulette Roy. All photography and publications are available for sale at the show.
Paul Rezendes Photography is on exhibit now through May 26, 2016. The Petersham Art Center is open
Wednesday-Sunday from 12-4pm and is located at 8 North Street, just off Route
32 near the center of Historic Petersham.
Entrance is free and open to the public.
The
Petersham Art Center is a nonprofit organization run entirely by
volunteers. The artisan gift shop features the
work of more than 100 local artists, including beautiful pottery, jewelry, paintings, prints, paper, books,
fiber, leather, and other fine, locally-made products.
